Funeral Services

Repatriation to and from Ireland

We bring loved ones home to Sligo from overseas and arrange travel abroad with embassies, airlines and customs so timelines stay on track.

Our multilingual partners and airline contacts help keep timelines short, even when consular offices or coroners are involved. We guide you through legalisation, translations and onward arrangements.

Timeframes

Most European locations complete within 3–5 working days. Long-haul cases average 5–7 days depending on embassy hours. If a post-mortem is required abroad we remain in daily contact with local authorities and update you immediately once release is granted.

What we can provide

  • Embassy and Department of Foreign Affairs paperwork, legalisation and translations.
  • Collection, embalming to international standards and zinc-lined flight coffins.
  • Cargo bookings, customs clearance and onward transport anywhere in Ireland.
  • Coordination with overseas funeral directors and bereavement counsellors.
  • Assistance with flight tracking, travel plans and updated timelines for families.

Step-by-step support

  1. Documentation: obtain death certificates, police reports where necessary and consular permits.
  2. Preparation: embalming, dressing and placement in a hermetically sealed coffin approved for air transport.
  3. Flight logistics: book cargo space, prepare airway bills and ensure arrival handling at Dublin, Belfast or Knock.
  4. Transfer to Sligo: our team meets the flight, completes customs and transports home for repose.
  5. Funeral planning: once back in Sligo we proceed with the ceremony, burial or cremation as normal.

Can we travel on the same flight?

Airlines do not permit this, but we coordinate passenger flights on the same day and meet you at the arrival airport.

What if passports are missing?

Embassies can issue laissez-passer documents; we guide you through the affidavits needed.

Is cremation required overseas?

Only if requested. We can bring the deceased home for burial or transfer ashes if a cremation abroad has taken place.
