First Steps

Few people feel fully prepared for the emotional stress that follows a death. These questions help guide your first conversation with us.

Questions to consider

  • Would you prefer burial or cremation?
  • Where should the service take place - church, funeral home, crematorium or home?
  • Will it be a one-day or two-day funeral?
  • Where will the deceased repose - at home or in the funeral home?
  • When would you like the funeral to occur?
  • What clothing should be used for repose?
  • Will the family require transport such as a limousine?
  • Who should be mentioned in the death notice and where should it be published?
  • Do you require music or specific hymns?

Common scenarios

Each circumstance is different. Someone who dies at home requires a GP to verify the death before we transfer them into our care. In hospitals or nursing homes, staff will guide you through their internal process and contact us once paperwork is completed. Sudden or unexpected deaths may involve the coroner or Gardaí; we remain on standby until release is granted.

Early contact with our team ensures paperwork, clothing, travel and cultural considerations are handled calmly.
