It is with heavy hearts, but with immense gratitude for a life so well lived, we announce the passing of the Very Reverend Fr. John Carroll, who died peacefully in the exceptional and loving care of the North West Hospice, surrounded by his family, after an illness bravely borne.
Predeceased by his parents Alfie and Gertrude (Campbell), Aunt May, Geraldine (Flanagan), his sister Maureen (Geraghty) his nephew Anthony Carroll and his dear Uncles
Fr. John will be sadly missed by his brother Frank, sister Mona (Rooney), sister-in-law Ann, brother-in-law Brendan, his much-loved nieces and nephews Sean (Morne), Brendan (Fiona), Maeve (Peter) Geraghty, Paul (Kerrie), Cliodhna, Fran (Orla) Carroll, Colm (Rachel), Aoife, Sean (Gretchen) & and Kevin Rooney, together with his grandnieces, grandnephews and great-grandniece.
He will also be greatly missed by his Kiltegan family, his fellow priests in the Diocese of Elphin, his colleagues and friends in Cregg House, St. Cecilia's School, Sligo University Hospital, the Chaplaincy service, North West Hospice and by the many people whose lives he touched.
A faithful priest, a wonderful Uncle and a compassionate friend, his memory will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. His kindness, compassion and unwavering faith will be fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Reposing at The Church, Cregg House, Rosses Point, Co. Sligo F91PX2N from 2.00pm to 6.00pm on Sunday October 11th. Mass of the resurrection will be concelebrated at 12.00noon on Monday October 12th in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Sligo. Funeral Mass will be livestreamed at https://sligocathedral.ie/livestreaming . Burial follows in Cregg House Cemetery.
