Radhrc na habhann, Coolaney, Co. Sligo and late of Auckland, New Zealand

Peter (Pete) Garrett
Radharc na hAbhann, Coolaney and late of Auckland New Zealand
Suddenly and peacefully, doing what he loved, in the company of two of his closest friends.
Predeceased by his adored father John, his father in law Hughie and brother in law Gerard.
Forever loved and deeply missed by his heartbroken wife and soulmate Jenny (Keavney), his much loved daughters Caitlin and Lauren, his mother Jan, sisters Liz (Mike), Barbara (Wayne), Karen and Brad, uncle Peter, Aunty Lynn, godmother aunty Kath, his nieces and nephews, mother in law Doreen, Martin, Karena, Ray, Anne, Gerry and Catriona, neighbours, colleagues, his large circle of friends at home and abroad in the surfing/kneeboarding and music communities and his two fur babies Blaze and Blossom
A remarkable man who moved from the beautiful shores of New Zealand to the North West of Ireland where he found friendship, love, married and had two beautiful daughters. His heart, a bridge between two countries was filled with kindness, laughter and a gift to help others. He had the warmth of the Kiwi culture and embraced Irish traditions. With every laugh shared, every story told, of which there were many, he showed us that love knows no boundaries and to embrace life fully no matter where we are.

Out hearts are broken for you Jenny, your beautiful girls and the whole family. Pete always took the time to respond to a story or message, I have many memories of him back in the day, and literally every single one is either funny or an adventure. There's never enough words, or photos to tell his whole story, but I hope all the ones being shared bring you some comfort. Sending love from NZ x

I met Pete (Mum) back in 1992 through good friends Fleur and Russell. He was a great guy, full of fun and laughter and forever smiling...the dance moves - well lets just say he loved music! I was so looking forward to seeing him and Cam in the flesh when we finally get to travel to Ireland in the near future, alas our paths will not cross. Thank you for your impact on my life, they were some of the best days of my late teens/early 20s. My heart goes out to Pete's family and especially his 2 best mates Cam and Steve. Rest in love, Ka aroha hoki Rach X

Hi all I wanted to share a very memorable moment when I was younger and didn't have a drivers license yet but was learning to Surf. Pete had an Awesome Yellow Holden Panel van and I was lucky enough to be invited to a surf trip with others up North from Auckland to Kaitaia, Shipwreck Bay, Pete had an Awesome driving style and he navigated the ins an outs of the corners with his own unique driving style, lets just say we were all hanging on for the ride. It didn't matter to Pete that I was at least 2 years younger at the time and he treated me no different than if we were all the same age. It was an Awesome trip and not long after Pete was known as "Mum" for having Mum quality's and would look after everyone and treat them kindly and equally. This is just one of the many memorable times I had with Pete. As time went on and we all got older the couple of years difference was irrelevant but I never forgot his acceptance at the time and his generous and accepting nature.

Pete had so many nicknames but for me MUM was it, not sure he loved it but for me Pete's Nickname was Mum. Pete along with Cam, Dicko and Steve and all the others ( too many to mention ) were always a couple of years older than me and ever since I met them they had my back especially when my parents spilt up, especially as I was only 16. For me going on surf trips with these bois was a dream, they took me everywhere, opened my eyes to being free, beers bongs and waves I so loved it. No drama just pure fun. Mum however was next level and why we called him mum and loved him so much. If anything went wrong he was there, weather it was car problems, first aid, starting a fire anything he had the answer or something to fix it and did it all with that infectious smile and laugh. Love ya my bro. VIN.
