To Jenny, Leslie, and Gordon and their families: Our condolences are sent across the miles and across the decades. Palmer is your father's cousin, son of your grandfather, Edward Ward's oldest sister, Irene Ward, and her husband, Cyril Palmer Acheson. All my summers, until 1960, were spent in "Nahanna," and nearby "Johnville." Your father was my playmate. We cycled and fished together. I retain happy memories of those golden days, and I mourn the loss of the boy who became a man, and your father. Sit tibi terra levis, Des.

So sorry to hear of the untimely death of Des, a good friend and work colleague. Des was passionate about two things in life - his family and his work. Losing Ruth was a severe blow. As we traversed Sligo and Leitrim he talked so proudly, and so often, of how Jennifer, Leslie and Gordon were doing. May he rest in peace.

Des was a gentleman He used to come to st John's hospital every sunday and assist the residents to service he would bring people who could not bring themselves. He was so kind and gentle with each and everyone of them. I would offer him tea or coffee after service but he would decline and slip away quietly the same way he came in. He will be greatly missed May god reward him for all his kindness.
