Dear Sheelagh, There are no words that can express the shock, sadness, and heartbreak that the sad news of Declan's passing brings. He was truly one of the loveliest and most genuine people I've ever had the pleasure to meet and know. We are all devastated on medical south, and will never, ever forget ye. Declan was such a truly vital person- full of life, and energy, and charisma. He brought energy and happiness everywhere he went, and certainly left his legacy with us in Sligo. He was also such a gentleman, and deserved a long, happy, and healthy life with you. Unfortunately, this hasn't come to pass, and I only knew him slightly- I simply don't have comprehension of your loss at this time. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers, and that you will always have friendship and support from our corner should you ever need it. I don't know what to say Sheelagh, there just are no words.. I am so glad he found you, and that you had those precious years together, I just wish it had been many, many more. I hope you get through the next while, and that you know that friends and family are there to carry you when you can't walk, and hold you up when you fall down, and surround you with love and protection until you are able to move again. I will think of you and pray for you, and will never forget ye. My very deepest condolences Sheelagh, and please pass on condolences to family and friends. God bless x Dianne

To Declan's mother: Dear Mrs. Walsh, I am writing to offer my deepest sympathies to you and your family. I lost my son when he was 9 years old, and I know something of the terrible pain you are suffering. Declan was an exceptional person, and he helped me a lot to deal with my grief and move forward in life. He knew something of tragedy himself of course, yet he remained a vibrant force of nature. His beautiful voice and musical talent, his love of adventure, and his motto "Carpe Diem" were a comfort and inspiration to me as a friend, and I am sure they must be a tremendous loss to you. Declan and I travelled to France on holiday together some years ago, and I fell in love with him. He did not return the feelings, but he did remain a kind and sincere friend. The fact that I live in Dublin meant we did not see each other often, but we followed each other on Facebook and exchanged messages occasionally. I was looking for him to share Christmas greetings, and when I couldn't find him, my heart sank. I checked obituaries to find him here. I learned you also lost your husband around the same time, and I imagine your devastation without your husband to help you shoulder your grief for your son, and without your son to help you mourn his father. My life has never been the same without my son, and I know yours never will be either. From one bereaved mother to another, I have no words of wisdom or experience to pass on, just the most profound sympathies to you, and my sincere thanks to you for having raised such a kind, fun, profoundly insightful and intelligent, big-hearted man, who made the world a better place for as long as we had him with us. With deep sadness and loving memories of your darling son, Marie Stamp (Dublin)
